Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman

I was reading an article the other day in one of the fitness magazines about Mr. Olympia: Ronnie Coleman To give you an idea of what this guy looks like just picture the biggest person you’ve ever seen, then double him, mentally. This guy is 300+ pounds at about 4% body fat.

Anyway, in this article a journalist documents a day of training with Ronnie. Do you know what the... 7 time Mr. Olympia winner says to himself when he lifts? “Light weight”. “It’s nothing”.

Meanwhile, he is lifting weights that weigh more than your entire family. Have you ever been to a commercial gym? You know those weights that are all dusty at then end of the dumbbell rack? Not the ones that are chrome that you see the cover models of Self, and AARP Magazine using.

I’m talking about these massive weights that mere mortals never even dare or imagine using. Ronnie holds a 190 lb. dumbbell in each hand and does 6 repetitions of chest press with them. The whole time, he’s saying to himself, “light weight” and “it’s nothing”.

The lesson here is that your language has a direct correlation to your performance. If that voice in your head is saying, “I’m to old for this”, and “I’m too tired”, etc.

Do you think that will lead to a body composition change that you can be proud of? Highly unlikely. Instead, get clear about WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.

Are you exercising because you like to get your clothes all sweaty and like to throw away an hour or two of your day?

OR are you exercising to release your unlimited potential. Exercise to let your true self manifest. Exercise to let the great divinity that you possess and are become apparent. Watch your self talk.

Consciously decide what you want from your exercise session. Visualize that transformation taking place WHILE you exercise.

Of course you need more that just positive thinking to make that change happen but you’ll be light years ahead of where you would be with negative thinking, right?

Make it a great day.
